Nothing was invented between these two documents. The facts are identical. What changed is which facts are visible and how they are described.

How we approached it

A fresher resume fails for one reason more than any other: it describes what the candidate was present for instead of what they actually built. The starting document said 'worked on backend development' and left a recruiter to guess the rest.

We rebuilt the page around three pieces of evidence: the internship, a project that is genuinely in use, and a smaller project that shows independent learning. Each one names the technology, the decision made and the result. Nothing was invented. Every number came from the candidate once we asked the right questions.

Because a fresher has no job history to fill a page, the layout gives projects the same visual weight as experience. That is deliberate. For this candidate, the projects are the stronger evidence.

What actually changed

    The objective became a profile

    The old opening line described what the candidate wanted from an employer. The new one states what he can build and in what stack, so a recruiter knows within two lines whether to keep reading.

  2. 02

    Duties became outcomes

    'Involved in coding and testing' became four bullets naming the endpoints built, the query that was fixed, the latency before and after, and the test coverage he raised.

    Skills were sorted, not listed

    A fifteen-item list that put MS Word next to Java became four labelled groups. A reviewer scanning for Spring Boot now finds it in one place instead of mid-sentence.

    Projects were given real weight

    Each project now carries scale, stack and current status. One of them is still running on a college server, which is worth far more than the phrase 'team of four'.

    Unverifiable claims were cut

    'Hardworking' and 'good communication skills' were removed. That space now holds two achievements a reader can picture.

  6. 06

    Structure was made parsing-safe

    Standard section headings, one consistent date format, no tables and no text boxes, so a parser reads the document in the order a human does.

Presenting skills

Four groups: Languages, Frameworks, Data, Tools. Grouping matters more than length. A recruiter filtering for a Java role wants to confirm depth in one line, not read a fifteen-item inventory.

Presenting projects

Written as short case notes. Each opens with what the project does and who uses it, then the technical decision worth knowing, then the outcome. Scale is stated because 400 users is a meaningfully different project from a class assignment.

ATS-conscious structure

Section headings use the terms parsers expect: Profile, Experience, Projects, Education, Skills. Dates run in one format throughout. Skills appear as plain text so they are extracted as terms rather than lost inside a graphic.

Visual design

A single accent rail carries the eye down the left edge and keeps the page from looking like a plain word-processor export. Everything else stays black on white, because the content is what has to be read.
