This is the most common situation we see and the one candidates find most discouraging. No internship, no technical projects, and a degree shared by thousands of other applicants in the same city.

The material was there. Eighteen months of part-time retail work alongside a full-time degree is employment, and it involved rostering, cash reconciliation and training new staff. She had left it off entirely because it was not an internship.

The placement committee role was the second find. Coordinating fourteen company visits across a season of 220 students is recruitment coordination, which is precisely the work she is applying to do. Written accurately, the page stopped being empty.

What actually changed

    The part-time job was counted as work

    Eighteen months of retail work held alongside a full-time degree became the lead experience entry. It shows reliability under load, which is difficult to demonstrate any other way.

    The committee role was named for what it is

    'Member of placement committee' became coordinating logistics for fourteen company visits and maintaining the shortlisting database. That is directly relevant to an HR coordination role.

    The absence of an internship was never mentioned

    Nothing on the page apologises or explains. The experience section is full, so no reader is prompted to ask what is missing.

    One concrete accuracy claim was included

    No unexplained cash variance across eighteen months is a specific, checkable claim about carefulness, and carefulness is the whole job in HR records.

    Excel was made specific

    'MS Office' became pivot tables and lookups. For operations roles this is a screening question, and the vague version fails it.

  6. 06

    School marks and a declaration were removed

    That space now holds the academic study she ran, which involved interviewing 25 employees across eight stores and is far more interesting to an HR reader.

The academic study is included and clearly labelled as academic. For a candidate with no internship, a piece of self-directed research with real interviews is genuine evidence of initiative.

ATS-conscious structure

Both 'human resources' and 'HR' appear, along with the operations terms these listings use: rostering, reconciliation, onboarding. Job titles in this segment vary widely, so the document covers the common variants.

Visual design

A single accent rail and generous spacing. The page is deliberately not crowded, because filling every millimetre is what a nervous fresher resume does and a confident one does not.
