Nothing was invented between these two documents. The facts are identical. What changed is which facts are visible and how they are described.

How we approached it

Mechanical is a broad degree and a broad resume gets filtered out of every specific role. This candidate wanted design work, but her document named no software depth, no standard and no drawing experience in the top half of the page.

We narrowed the whole document to design. The headline names the three things a design lead screens for: the CAD package, the tolerancing standard and the manufacturing process she has drawn for. Production and quality exposure stayed, but moved below the design evidence.

Her final-year project reached a working prototype tested over forty hours, which is stronger evidence than most fresher internships. It is written as the second real body of work on the page, not as a footnote.

What actually changed

    The role was named

    'Mechanical Engineer' became 'Design Engineer, SolidWorks, GD&T, Sheet Metal', which is how these openings are actually written and searched.

  2. 02

    The internship reads as engineering

    'Assisted the design department' became the number of parts modelled, the standard applied, the material saved and who verified it.

  3. 03

    The prototype was promoted

    A one-line project entry became a short case note covering the design problem, four physical iterations and the manual handed to the next batch.

  4. 04

    Certification moved up

    A CAD certification sat at the very bottom of page two. It now sits with the skills, where a screener checking for verified software competence will find it.

  5. 05

    School results were removed

    Tenth and twelfth standard percentages were cut. For an engineering graduate applying to industry they take space that design evidence needed.

  6. 06

    Two pages became one

    Nothing of value was lost. Repetition, an address block and a declaration line accounted for most of the second page.

Presenting skills

Split into CAD, Engineering, Manufacturing and Tools. The distinction between knowing SolidWorks and being able to apply GD&T matters to a design lead, so the two never sit in the same list.

Presenting projects

The wheelchair attachment is written as a design story: constraint, iteration count, test hours and the documentation left behind. Iteration count is included on purpose because it shows a process, not a one-shot model.

ATS-conscious structure

Standard headings, one date format, and software named exactly as job descriptions name it, including SolidWorks as one word and GD&T with the ampersand spelled out in the skills line so both forms are present.

Visual design

A tinted header band sets the name and target role apart, which suits engineering documents that are often printed and reviewed in batches. The rest is plain, ruled and dense enough to respect a reviewer's time.
