How we approached it

Career switchers are filtered out by job title long before anyone reads the detail. This candidate had already done real cloud work, but it was buried in the fourth bullet of a role called IT Support Engineer.

We did not hide the support history. Hiding it would be dishonest and would leave an unexplained gap. Instead we reordered the evidence inside each role so automation, infrastructure and cost work sit first, and routine endpoint support sits last as a single line.

The personal Terraform environment matters more than it looks. It is the only proof that he can build infrastructure from code rather than click through a console, so it gets a named section rather than a mention.

    The headline names Cloud Engineer and the three technologies that back it, so a screener does not have to infer the direction from a support job title.

    Bullets were reordered, not invented

    Every bullet is work he already did. Within each role the automation and infrastructure work now comes first and the routine support is compressed into one line.

    The switch is explained in the profile

    Two sentences state where he is coming from and what he has built to move. A recruiter reads the intent instead of guessing at it.

    The home lab became evidence

    A line that read 'learning AWS' became a project entry with the resources provisioned, the teardown discipline that keeps it free, and the pull request check running against it.

    Certification given its position

    The AWS associate certification is named in the profile and listed with its year, because for a switcher it is the credential that gets the resume past the first filter.

    Cost awareness surfaced

    Two bullets mention what things cost to run. Very few support resumes do this, and it is the difference between someone who uses cloud and someone who can be trusted with an account.

Presenting skills

Ordered by where he is going, not where he has been. Cloud and infrastructure as code sit above systems administration, and each AWS service is named individually because that is how portals search.

Presenting projects

The home lab is written like production work: what it provisions, how often it is rebuilt, and what automation guards it. Weekly teardown is included because it demonstrates cost discipline as much as skill.

ATS-conscious structure

Service names appear in full rather than as acronyms alone, both 'Identity and Access Management' and 'IAM' are present across the document, and the certification title matches AWS's exact wording.

Visual design

A hairline treatment with generous margins. Career switchers are often read by senior engineers rather than recruiters, and a quiet, dense, well-spaced page suits that reader better than a coloured one.
